Abstract

In May 2023 there was Year on Year (y-on-y) inflation of 3.24 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 119.76. The highest y-on-y inflation occurred in Kotabaru and Timika of 6.04 percent with a CPI of 121.80 and 117.74 respectively and the lowest was in Pangkalpinang of 1.93 percent with a CPI of 114.16.

Y-on-y inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in most of the expenditure group indices, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.30 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 2.29 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group by 1.76 percent; equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance group by 1.36 percent; the health group by 2.05 percent; transportation group by 18.43 percent; education group by 4.78 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 3.28 percent; as well as the personal care and other services group of 4.60 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced a decrease in index was the information, communication and financial services group by 0.69 percent; as well as the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.24 percent.

The Month to Month (m-to-m) inflation rate is 1.28 percent and the Year to Date (y-to-d) inflation rate is 3.65 percent.

The y-on-y inflation rate for the Energy component was 10.04 percent and the y-on-y deflation for the Foodstuffs component was 1.65 percent.
