Abstract

In February 2020 there was a deflation of 0.68 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 103.33. Out of 90 CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 17 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sintang by 1.21 percent with CPI of 109.73 and the lowest occurred in Pare-Pare by 0.02 percent with CPI of 103.82. While the highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan of 1.20 percent with CPI of 103.66 and the lowest occurred in Padang Sidempuan of 0.01 percent with CPI of 104.01.

Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in most indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 2.39 percent; clothing and footwear group of 0.08 percent; transportation group by 1.15 percent; information, communication and financial services group by 0.01 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 0.19 percent. Whereas the group that experienced inflation was the equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance group by 0.58 percent; education group by 7.21 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.20 percent. While housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups; health group; and the recreation, sports and culture groups did not experience an index / stable change.

The February 2020 calendar year inflation rate was 0.41 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2020 against February 2019) was 1.34 percent.

The energy component in February 2020 experienced a deflation of 0.09 percent. The inflation rate for the calendar year energy component in February 2020 is -0.27 percent and the inflation rate for the energy component year-on-year (February 2020 against February 2019) is -0.37 percent. The food component in February 2020 experienced a deflation of 3.23 percent. The inflation rate of the foodstuff component of the February 2020 calendar year is 0.83 percent and the inflation rate of the foodstuff component year to year (February 2020 against February 2019) is 1.44 percent.
