Bangka Belitung Islands Economic Quarter III-2017 Grows 3.69 Percent, Slowdown Compared to Quarter III-2016 Growth

Abstract

The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands in the third quarter of 2017 measured by Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) at current prices (ADHB) reached Rp17,553 billion and GDP at constant price (ADHK) 2010 reached Rp12,534 billion.
The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands in the third quarter of 2017 compared to the third quarter-2016 (y-on-y) grew by 3.69 percent, a slowing compared to the second quarter-2017 of 5.29 percent. In terms of production, the slowdown in economic performance is due to the fact that the plantation and fishery business fields are contracting.
The economy of Bangka Belitung Islands in quarter III-2017 experienced negative growth (contracted) of 0.11 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, the decline in economic performance is due to the decline in production of several strategic commodities such as palm oil, fishery, tin mining and Crude Palm Oil (CPO). So from the expenditure side, the exports of Bangka Belitung Islands in quarter III-2017 also experienced contraction due to lack of supply of strategic commodities that became the mainstay of exports.
The economy of the Bangka Belitung Islands up to quarter III-2017 (c-to-c) grew 5.11 percent. In terms of production, growth is driven by all business fields except Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries which decreased by 0.75 percent. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, c-to-c growth was driven by foreign exports which grew by 24.99 percent.
Total PDRB ADHB of Sumatra Island in quarter III-2017 reached Rp765.243 billion or about 21.54 percent of total PDRB 34 Province in Indonesia, while PDRB ADHK Sumatra Island in quarter III-2017 reached Rp544.536 billion. The economic growth of Sumatera Island is 3.15 percent (q-to-q), 4.43 percent (y-on-y), and 4.21 percent (c-to-c). While Provincial GDP of Bangka Belitung Islands only contributes 2.29 percent to PDRB Pulau Sumatera and 0.49 percent to total PDRB 34 provinces in Indonesia.
