The 2023 Agricultural Census (ST2023) is just one day away. This national activity, which is held every ten years by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), is mandated by Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics. The Agriculture Census is one of three censuses conducted by BPS as an institution that provides basic statistics in Indonesia. ST2023 is the 7th Agricultural Census since its implementation in 1963.
ST2023 was conducted to accommodate the variables needed for the completeness of agricultural data that developed very dynamically, to answer data needs at both national and international levels, and was designed to obtain international standard results by referring to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) program known as the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture (WCA).
As an effort to socialize ST2023 and to mark the official start of ST2023 on June 1, 2023 in a massive way, a Media Gathering was held with the theme "Bringing ST2023 Information Closer to All Agricultural Business Actors" today (31/05) at the Central Bureau of Statistics of Bangka Belitung Islands Province office by inviting local and national mass media partners, as well as relevant stakeholders at the provincial level, namely: Department of Agriculture and Food Security, Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Department of Environment and Forestry, and Department of Communication and Information.
The implementation of ST2023 in all regions of Indonesia, including in the Bangka Belitung Islands, both urban and rural from June 1 to July 31, 2023 will use initial information from the Preprinted List of the 2020 Population Census / Initial Data Collection of the 2022 Socio-Economic Registration (Regsosek), data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and other sources. There are three modes of data collection used in ST2023, namely Paper Assisted Personal Interviewing (PAPI), Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), and Computer Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI). The subsector coverage recorded in ST2023 consists of food crops, horticulture, plantations, fisheries, livestock, forestry, and agricultural services subsectors. The ST2023 agricultural business units that will be recorded include Individual Agricultural Businesses (UTP), Legalized Agricultural Companies (UPB), and Other Agricultural Businesses (UTL).
ST2023 data results are prepared to address global issues and national challenges. To face the key global agricultural issues and national agricultural issues of ST2023, transformation of agriculture and food systems to be more innovative, competitive, and sustainable is key. Therefore, ST2023 presents data for evidence-based decision making in the transformation of agriculture and food systems.
ST2023, in addition to producing data on the structure of agriculture and smallholder farmers (such as the data produced in ST2013), will also produce data related to agricultural SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) indicators, small-scale food producers (small-scale farmers according to FAO standards), geospatial agricultural statistics, and agricultural management (institutions, adoption of information and communication technology, etc.).
ST2023 activities in Bangka Belitung Islands certainly require collaboration, publicity support, and data utilization from various parties, especially from the Regional Government, Associations, and other stakeholders. The dissemination of information through the Media Gathering today and the coverage of ST2023 in various mass media both print and online, is expected to increase public awareness about the importance of the Agricultural Census and finally the community, especially agricultural businesses, will accept the arrival of census officers and provide correct and honest answers.
Make the 2023 Agriculture Census a success. Recording Indonesian Agriculture for Food Sovereignty and Farmers' Welfare.
