Abstract

The Gender Inequality Index (GII) of Bangka Belitung Islands Province in 2024 is 0,379, a decrease of 0,111 points compared to 0,490 in 2023.
This improvement is influenced by more equal achievements across all dimensions that make up the Gender Inequality Index (GII).
The improvement in the reproductive health dimension is driven by the decrease in the indicator of women aged 15–49 giving birth to live babies outside health facilities, which dropped from 0,087 in 2023 to 0,038 in 2024. Additionally, the indicator of women aged 15–49 who gave birth to their first live baby under the age of 20 declined from 0,320 in 2023 to 0,310 in 2024.
The empowerment dimension improved due to an increase in the percentage of female legislative members, which rose more significantly than that of males, as well as an increase in the percentage of women aged 25 and over with at least a senior high school education, which also surpassed the increase among men. The percentage of female legislative members increased from 9,52 percent in 2023 to 22,22 percent in 2024. Meanwhile, the percentage of women aged 25 and over with at least a senior high school education increased from 37,18 percent in 2023 to 38,05 percent in 2024.
The improvement in the labor market dimension is influenced by the increase in the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for both males and females in 2024 compared to the previous year.
