Abstract

In March 2019, the percentage of the poor (population with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in the Bangka Belitung Islands reached 4.62 percent, down by 0.15 percent compared to September 2018 which was 4.77 percent.
  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2018 was 2.78 percent, up to 2.85 percent in March 2019. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2018 was 7.16 percent, which decreased to 6.79 percent in March 2019.
  • During the period September 2018-March 2019, the number of poor people in urban areas rose by 1.09 thousand people (from 22.22 thousand people in September 2018 to 23.31 thousand people in March 2019), while in rural areas it dropped by 2, 64 thousand people (from 47.71 thousand people in September 2018 to 45.07 thousand people in March 2019).
  • The role of food commodities on the poverty line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). The contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line in March 2019 was recorded at 72.70 percent. This condition is not much different from the condition in September 2018 which was recorded at 72.59 percent.
  • The types of food commodities that have a major influence on the value of the Poverty Line in urban and rural areas are rice, filtered clove cigarettes, chicken meat, wet cakes, chicken eggs, and instant noodles. Whereas, for non-food commodities, the most significant effects are the costs of housing, gasoline, electricity and education.
